HTTP Error in WordPress 4.2.2 when trying to upload pdf and mp3 files

  • I am fairly new to WordPress so forgive me if the answer is out there and I just didn’t find it.

    I have been trying for the past 24 hours to upload 2 different files to the website. One is a pdf (file size 92.1KB) and the second is a mp3 file (10.5MB). I keep getting red “HTTP Error” message box for both files.

    I have disabled all plug-ins and tried again–same error message received.
    I have logged out and back in–still receiving same error message.

    I have tried uploading on a variety of connections (wifi, and wired using both windstream and cox connections)–I’m fairly confident it is not my connection causing the problem.

    Please advise on how I need to fix this.
