• I’ve been hit by the dreaded HTTP error when uploading media.
I’ve tried clearing my cache, and uploading on multiple browsers (Safari and Chrome), but no luck. As far as I can tell, Flash is up to date on both browsers. I’ve tried uploading from within post and from dashboard. Browser uploader isn’t working either; browser thinks really hard, gets up to about 90% uploaded (at least on Chrome, Safari doesn’t tell me what %), and goes blank. The images are about 7mb or less, which I’ve been uploading just fine up until now (my site’s only a few months old). I’m hosted on Bluehost. I’ve tried re-installing 4.2.4, which I’ve seen some people do. No luck.

Just now I’ve tried uploading smaller files and it has worked, but I really don’t feel like the original files should be too much for it to handle. Suggestions?

  • Hi,

Ask Bluehost what is your max file upload limit. It looks like you reached that.

This is an issue with hosting server. Most likely your hosting provider has set low limit to upload images/files via PHP.

Double checked with my host and my max file upload is 50 MB, so it’s not that. Any other thoughts?

If you are unable to upload large image, this should be related to PHP limits set by your host. Unfortunately only your host can help and fix the issue.

it could also be a timeout on the server

one thing you can for the time being is upload the files to teh server using FTP or your File manager and then try the plugin ‘Add From Server” (still works though is is getting a little old…)
