    Yes there are numerous threads on this, I’ve gone through every one of them over the past couple of days but nothing works.

    I originally set my site up, got it looking exactly as I wanted it, was happily uploading images then suddenly I got struck with an http error.
    Looked around tried a few things;
    – double and triple check permissions
    – deactivated plugins, deactivated my theme
    – wiped the lot and started again from a clean install
    – Then I thought I had it nailed and jetpack and my theme weren’t behaving together.
    – Another fresh install
    – nothing on it, clean out the box http error
    – scoured the forums tried every .htaccess modification going,

    So it wasn’t my theme, it wasn’t a plugin and it isn’t the server because the other 2 wp sites on there work fine. (both running the same version of WP the only difference is they were upgraded to 4.1 rather than being clean from it.)
    – found a timer modification, no effect
    – wiped clean and started again loaded jetpack and my theme before doing anything else this time.
    – first image uploaded fine, second ok
    – third image, nope
    – 4th and 5th worked but the last one didn’t.
    – I even tried changing the library order even though I wasn’t using the offending plugin for this fix.

    I know I can ftp the images in (looks like I might have to) but the blog on my last site was manual (full on working direct in the database), I wanted a CMS that did it all. (which I thought this did.)

    So if it isn’t the plugins theme or the server what’s the problem?

  • Please post the exact wording of the error – copy & paste if you can, or just type it exactly word for word….it’s really hard to diagnose an error without knowing what it says, and “http error” is too generic – it could be many things.

    I’ve been using WP for 10 years, upload images frequently, and have not had this type of error, so I’m sure something is causing it, but not 100% convinced (yet) that it’s WP…..knowing the exact error will help us to help you.

    Also, please forgive me if this sounds like an elementary question, just troubleshooting 101 here, but how large (filesize & dimensions) are the images you’re uploading?

    All it says in the uploader is http error (nothing else)

    Developer tools says;
    Path: async-upload.php/wp-admin
    Method: post
    Status: 500 Internal Server Error
    Type: Text/html (which seems confusing as it’s an image)

    The images themselves anywhere from 250px up to 1024px on the largest side
    from 17kb up to 600kb in size.
    Some are jpg some are png.
    I have a folder of about 20 images that I have been trying to get on, sometimes they all fail, sometimes 5 or six, sometimes one. Doesn’t matter if I bulk upload or do them as single images. It’s never the same ones that fail or succeed either so it’s not a corrupt file issue.

    Fixed

    Husband (php developer) on the case, said there were no reported errors server side (images weren’t making it that far)
    One email sent off to our server provider.

    Up shot was it wasn’t anything other than my account linking me to the server wasn’t displaying as root at their end. (but was for us.)

    So no actual errors anywhere. No one knows how my account changed but everything has been reset and everything is working normally now.
