I’ve used Visual Form Builder for various websites for years. In the last few days, after completing a form, people have been receiving a “HTTP ERROR 500” error (even though the form actually completes and their form is recorded in Entries). I’ve tried changing the Confirmation, from a “Text” to “Page”, but that doesn’t seem to help.

The error said: The https://www.westjetpfaa.ca page isn’t working. https://www.westjetpfaa.ca is currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500.

This is the first time I’ve seen this kind of error. Is there a fix for this?

  • Hello Portpass,
The most common cause we see for 500 errors as it relates to VFBPro is that your server php version is outdated and no longer works quite right with newer WordPress versions. Please make sure your server is running php 5.4 or better. This is a good place to start.

    Hi Joseph,

I checked the PHP version on my hosting provider, and it’s version 5.5. There is an option to switch to 7.0, but I even tried that and the problem persisted. As well, it appears that the notification email isn’t being sent either.

Is there a fix for this? I’m stil getting the HTTP Error 500 problem. Thanks.

Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you, 500 errors are server related. I think the next course of action would be to work with your website host on the error and your server error logs to see what could be causing the issue with your server or website configuration.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Joseph,

I’ve already done this, but they can’t find anyting wrong. Would rolling back to an older edition of Form Builder help, or would purchasing the Pro version help with this issue? Hope to hear from you soon.

    Hi Again,

One more thing if this helps: the plugin was working perfectly fine up until about two weeks ago. I’ve even tried rolling back to previous versions, but that didn’t fix the problem either.

    Hello there,

I’d still lean to something going on with your server configuration. One other thing you might check would be for conflicts with your theme or another plugin, it is possible something else is going on here as well. You might to some conflict testing since this is unique to your website. Getting our pro version of course gives you literally 100s of more options and such. But I cannot determine wether or not it would fix the problem if there is another underlying issue you know?

    Hope this helps,
    Joseph

Okay, I think I’ve finally found the solution. When you’re editing a form, under Email, you now have to enter a “Reply-To” email address (before, you didn’t have to). Now the plugin works properly. No offense or anything, but is there any way to can make the plugin work like it did before, when you didn’t have to enter an actual reply-to email?

It seems like a very small (and insignificant) to-do is causing some very big problems out there.

However, this email address isn’t actually receiving the notifications for each form entry (which is actually good, because I don’t want it to – too many emails). And the notification emails still aren’t working neither. Do you know why this might be happening? Thanks.

Yes, the problem was resolved when you select the reply field !

    thnk u so much !
