• For last couple of months my website is having this weird error that when I try to access it, whether its the admin section or the home page, it shows blank page, half black and half white. See here https://imgur.com/a/zfNafx7 Sometimes It shows error saying “HTTP Error 403 – Forbidden. The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory or you do not have enough permissions to access the resource“.

When I clear cache of my browser and reload the page, it starts to work fine. Some times I have to clear cache multiple times to make it work. I don’t understand this error because when I try to access my website on my android phone, it works fine while at same time showing error on my laptop.

I tried using 3 different browsers – Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox but problem persists. What seems to be causing this problem? I have another wordpress website on my hosting plan and I never face same problem on it.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

@macmanx Thanks for the reply James. However i wanted to know if its plugin or theme related issue then how can I access the website properly on my phone while at the same time it shows error on my laptop. And why the issue resolves by clearing history of the browser?

Just follow the guides linked to above. As mentioned there, “no Dashboard access required.”

As for the cache, most likely the error state was cached, it’s pretty common. The real solution requires finding out what caused the error state in the first place.
