• I am doing a new installation (no upgrade) of 4.3 on a new hosted server. It is the first intallation on that server – nothing else installed.
I have done several WP installations on servers from this provider before without problems.

When going to …/wp-admin/install.php it jumps to …/wp-admin/setup-config.php as it should but then it goes straight into a HTTP 500 error and shows a blank page only.

I have tried downloading again from www.remarpro.com and uploading everything again without luck.
My provider finds no errors on their side.

    Any ideas?

  • Internal server errors (error 500) are often caused by plugin or theme function conflicts, so if you have access to your admin panel, try deactivating all plugins. If you don’t have access to your admin panel, try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the default theme for your version of WordPress to rule-out a theme-specific issue. If you don’t have access to your admin panel, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue.

If that does not resolve the issue, it’s possible that a .htaccess rule could be the source of the problem. To check for this, access your server via FTP or SFTP and rename the .htaccess file. If you can’t find a .htaccess file, make sure that you have set your FTP or SFTP client to view invisible files.

If you weren’t able to resolve the issue by either resetting your plugins and theme or renaming your .htaccess file, we may be able to help, but we’ll need a more detailed error message. Internal server errors are usually described in more detail in the server error log. If you have access to your server error log, generate the error again, note the date and time, then immediately check your server error log for any errors that occurred during that time period. If you don’t have access to your server error log, ask your hosting provider to look for you.

The issue is that I don’t have access to the admin panel.
This is happening in the installation procedure on the first step on a fresh install from a new downlaod of 4.3 straight form www.remarpro.com before anything is configured.
Therefore I have no active themes defined other than what is set default in the steps that I have not yet reached.

    If I manually configure wp-config.php I get HTTP 500 on …/wp-admin/install.php

I have hidden files visible and there is no .htaccess file present in the installation. There was also no .htaccess file present on my empty server, and no .htaccess file was included in the download of WP 4.3. I don’t know if the fil is supposed to be created during the installation process?

If it is a fresh install then try to just reinstall WordPress.

I have tried new install, 3 times new downlaod from www.remarpro.com, 3 times new unzip in case something went wrong there, 3 times new upload to server on 2 different ftp-software, and every time I start the install it goed to HTTP 500 when reaching …/wp-admin/setup-config.php

Please dont confuse this error with errors appearing AFTER installation on a functioning installation. This is happening at the very first step of the installation

Have you tried installing WordPress 4.2 instead of 4.3?

I got the server log from my supplier.
It showed a syntax error in wp-includes/class-wp-theme.php

They replaced that single file (maybe from a 4.2.x version ?) and now I am running the install as normal.

I am having this HTTP 500 problem as well with the 4.3 installation. I have tried reinstalling but I can’t get pass that. I get this error code when trying to log into the installation or viewing the site.
