  • Success!!! That worked. I also tried the verify URL with my original link from my blog and that verified without errors as well.

Thanks for tracking this down. Nice to have this working for now with the latest version of the plugin. And without me having to go back and forth between old and new versions to verify podcast media links.

    Awesome!

I will have one more tweak for you to make with the next release. I need to add a setting to switch between the latest version of getid3 and the older version. The option will default to the latest version which supports newer media file formats.

I will work on that later today then reply to this thread when I have it in ready.

Please remove the define line WP_DEBUG from your wp-config.php, it is no longer necessary.

Also, I think I may package a separate plugin with the older getid3 library that way we’re not distributing 2 versions of the getid3 library for everyone using PowerPress. Still putting thought into it.

Okay, I have a more permanent solution that will work indefinitely.

First, install and activate the PowerPress GetID3 library add-on plugin: https://www.pluginspodcast.com/plugins/powerpress-getid3/

PowerPress 7.0+ (when released) will use that add-on plugin’s version of getid3 library when that plugin is enabled. This allows us to update PowerPress without having to distribute multiple versions of the getid3 library.

Updating here (been busy the last 24 hours).

Removed the WP_DEBUG line from wp-config.php

Have the PowerPress GetID3 plugin uploaded to my site, but I have a question before I activate it.

Do I leave the latest build plugin that you had me use (which is the one that works) active as well as this GetID3 plugin? I’m assuming yes, but wanted to check first.

    martymankins,

This new PowerPress getid3 add-on plugin will work for the next version of PowerPress 7.0. The good news is that you can install and activate this add-on plugin now, it will not conflict with what you have currently. When we release PowerPress 7.0, it will then be used only when PowerPress 7.0+ looks for the getId3 library.

Thanks for your help with all of this. I have activated the getid3 plugin and will upgrade to the PowerPress 7.0 once it’s released. For now, everything is working great.

    Hello!

I am having a similar problem. When I click on Verify URL I only get a time out and a 500 error, even though my mp3 url is OK. I’ve tried installing the plugin to replace getid3, but I still get the same problem. Can you please help me? I am using PowerPress 7.0.3

    @rodrigofpjunqueira,

Not sure how this got past us, sorry for the delay. In the future please start a new thread that way it gets our attention at the top of the new forum.

As for the 500 error, please reply with the URL to your media file so I can take a look. The 500 error can happen for various reasons, sometimes a firewall on the server preventing it from accessing itself, sometimes it’s something in the file itself. By providing the media URL we can test it from our PowerPress development environment which will give us additional information.

Hi! Thanks for the response ??

This is the URL for the media file:
    [audio src="https://feeds.soundcloud.com/stream/286713004-climbcast-climbcast-01-entrevista-com-camila-macedo.mp3" /]

I’ve done this before, in my first podcast episode, and it worked fine. I guess this problem is happening since I’ve updated Powerpress, but I am not sure about it.

If I can give you any other info, please let me know.

    Thanks

I am able to verify the URL here. I am using the latest version of PowerPress with no addon plugins.

Can you test this media URL, this will verify if the issue is between your server and SoundCloud or your server with any server.

Weird! I tried just now to verify it with my original file (the URL I sent you) and it worked (pretty fast, btw). But I’ve been trying for the past few days with no luck.

Anyways, if it happens again, can I post here again?

Thanks for the great support ??

    Hello @rodrigofpjunqueira,

Soundcloud has a reputation for having sporadic behavior as far as media hosting is concerned. We (Blubrry.com) get a lot of business from podcasters who start at SC and later learn the $5/month they save ends up costing them hours a month in their time. Blubrry.com service integrates seamlessly into your WordPress site, write your post, upload then publish.

Creating a new topic/thread rather than replying to an older one is optimal. When you reply to an old thread, everyone else who was part of that thread months or years ago also gets email notifications.

If you like the plugin and the support we provide, we would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment and leave our plugin a review. Thanks!
