Well, this may sound pretty dumb, but here goes.

I’m trying to find a way to protect my Uploads folder in wordpress.

Along with other methods, some people say “Put an empty index.php file in the folder”; some say “Put an empty index.html file in the folder.”

Will either extension work for this?

On the other hand, from all the horror stories I read, I’d just as soon abandon this folder all together, make it inaccessible across the board, and just ftp all my images to another directory somewhere.

    Is this doable?

    Thanks so much.

    Yes.

Won’t matter. It’s GOT to be a folder where people have access to see the files in it, or you can’t post images. Fact o’ life. So once they know there’s such a folder, the a**holes of the world can attack. Worry more about security than obscurity ?? Make sure the folder’s secure, that your permissions are good, and limit who can upload images. You should be fine.
