html, weaver, magazine subtheme help

I am used to writing webpages in HTML. I have pages on a website written in HTML, and I am trying to make the Word Press pages identical by customizing the theme and subtheme. Some things come easy, some things seem nearly impossible. I want to put a .jpg on either side of my content area. I have placed widgets on either side of the content kind of as placeholders. How to I (*where*) do I put the .jpg instructions? This is the first of three monstrous dilemmas I am trying to resolve. Please help!!
