I have looked for a plugin but haven’t found any.

  • You might have been asked this before, but, why?

There are various reasons why you might want to use HTML over XHTML, and discussing them normally leads into a flame war. Anyway, the unfortunate bottom line at the moment is no, you can’t get WP to produce HTML instead of XHTML.

This would make a good plugin candidate…

    Yes,

Why? HTML is um “so yesterday”. Everything about WordPress is designed with XHTML in mind…

There may be something out there that does it. However, keep in mind, that (I’ll assume your on 2.0) TinyMCE outputs XHTML so you have to modify that as well.

    Why do you want HTML?

I guessed that someone should ask that question. ??

It’s because I can’t serve XHTML as it is supposed to be served.
So I decided to do like some other Swedes have done.
Roger at 456 Berea Street and Robert at Robert’s talk have both started to use HTML.

“It’s because I can’t serve XHTML as it is supposed to be served.”

What do you mean by this?

    application/xhtml+xml as opposed to text/html

XHTML (to spec) should be with the mime-type application/xhtml+xml like Jewels said.
    IT’s not XHTML without it.

It’s a big nitpicky standards issue.
The reason why it’s an issue is because Internet Explorer prompts the user to download pages served as application/xhtml+xml.

Rumor has it, that’s still the case even in IE7 builds.
