HTML code disappearing in footer widget

On two websites where I’m using Astra, I noticed that in the HTML widgets for the footer, when I try to put in spacing on the visual side with just hitting Enter, it doesn’t work. And whey I try using <br> on the text side (not the visual), it works, but then after I save it, exit the customizer and then come back, all the <br> are gone and the spacing I added is gone.

How can I add spacing between lines of text without it disappearing?
