• I am new to wordpress so bare with me. I have searched the forums and haven’t been able to find a post regarding my issue. Any help would be appreciated.

    Here goes:
I’m setting up a wordpress website for a client and am using this as a learning experience. I have installed the script and everything works great. My question is how am I able to edit the theme and site information and view it online without anyone else gaining access to the website? I put up an ‘under construction page(index.html) which is showing when someone navigates to the site, though when I type in https://www.thewebsite.com/index.php, it kicks me back to the ‘under construction’ page. Is there a way tha tI can have the under construction page up and work on the website still visually? I was told that I could modify the .htaccess file to give extensions a hierarchy, though don’t know how.

Thank you for any and all help!
    Sincerely,
    Chris

  • Hi,

I think you can add the priority of the default page from the hosting control panel..however, you can set the .htaccess code to use it…here is the example sites:

    https://www.isitebuild.com/301-redirect.htm

    Thanks,

    Hi centinel3,

You could temporarily redirect everyone excluding yourself using a temporary redirect…

You could do this on a IP basis, excluding your own, anyone not on your IP gets sent to pageX while you remain able to access WP pages…

Of course if your IP changes alot this may not be suited…

If that’s what you need, just reply back and i’ll find something suited for you… it’s fairly straight-forward…
