I’ve just downloaded and installed wordpress 1.5 onto my domain (www.tjee.org). Rather than place it into the root, I’ve decided to place the files into a subfolder (www.tjee.org/tblog) to which I also setup as subdomain with redirection. So the address to my site is https://tblog.tjee.org (which is looking for stuff in the /tblog folder).

My problem is the auto-edit of .htaccess isn’t working as it seems it should. The .htaccess for this subdomain lives in https://www.tjee.org/tblog/.htaccess (it is chmodded 664), yet WordPress seems to want to use the .htaccess in my root domain (or somewhere else) https://www.tjee.org/.htaccess (which is not writeable).

If I manually update the /tblog/.htaccess the site works just fine. In the General Options I’ve got the following set:

    WordPress Address: https://www.tjee.org/tblog
    Blog Address: https://tblog.tjee.org

It doesn’t matter if I set the WordPress Address to https://www.tjee.org/tblog or https://tblog.tjee.org as I have a redirect in my root level .htaccess:

    Redirect permanent /tblog https://tblog.tjee.org

Are there any thoughts as to how I should be doing this? It’d be nice to not have to manually update the .htaccess file. Thanks.

Actually this is someonthing that I’m looking for and even having the categories be subdomains if need be so I can cut down on my DB usage.

Maybe try setting the WordPress domain to be tblog.tjee.org/wp or something? I have a blog hosted on a subdomain and I set the WordPress domain to point to a directory on the subdomain, not to the subdomain’s folder in my root (if that made any sense). Try changing it like that.

    And, @mluria:
I don’t think it’s possible to make each category be on it’s own separate subdomain. I don’t think mod_rewrite can handle that, although I may be wrong. How would that help cut down your DB usage though? Wouldn’t the subdomains still be querying the same DB for the information, or am I missing something?

Well its just one category that would be the subdomain, my wine reviews and travel journal and only have those visable from https://reviews.mattluria.com and seperate from my entries on my regular blog at https://mattluria.com/test

Right now I am running two different blogs, WP at test, and B2evo at reviews.

When I wrote my initial post, I was a bit loopy from my allergy meds.
