.htaccess missing all w3 directives

Good evening,

It has been a while since I did a W3 configuration from scratch, but I vaguely remember that W3 writes a whole bunch of rules to the .htaccess file. In my case, I see no errors in the WP dashboard telling me .htaccess isnt writable or anything, but when I view the htaccess file, it is empty.

I also visited the “Install” tab which did not have any information regarding .htaccess.

I am running Ubuntu, Apache and PHP5. I noticed that under ‘Web Server’ it says ‘Not Detected’. My guess is that because it isn’t seeing apache for some reason, it is not attempting to write the .htaccess file. Any idea why it wouldnt be able to detect apache?
