On activating the plugin I get this notification:

“If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t. So you must either make it writable or manually update your .htaccess with the mod_rewrite rules found under Settings >> Permalinks. Until then, the plugin can’t work yet.”

My host is Kinsta who tell me “Since we do not use Apache as our web server, .htaccess files are ignored here. You would need to ask the plugin developer if their plugin works with NGINX based web servers.”

So do you? Is there a solution? I really hope so as this is the only plugin of its kind I can find that allows files to be added from the WP Dash > Media folder, which is crucial to how my site has been set up.

    Hi @tongoa,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Yes, our Prevent Direct Access Gold does support NGINX server. Our free version, unfortunately, doesn’t though.

Please refer to this guide on how to set it up on NGINX servers: https://preventdirectaccess.com/docs/nginx-support/

You can ask Kinsta support to implement those redirect rules if it’s too technical for you.

Hope it helps and makes sense to you @tongoa.
