• Hi,

I have an ongoing problem with my site where the .htaccess file keeps disappearing and being replaced with a blank file.

This breaks the site because the rewrite rules do not come into effect.

It’s happening every few days, seemingly at random times (including when I haven’t done anything to the site).

I have tried making the file read only but it didn’t solve the problem as the actual file is being replaced with a blank one.

My hosting company is saying they don’t know why it’s happening and that it’s most likely a wordpress plugin overwriting the file.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Does the problem happen if you leave the Redirection plugin deactivated for a day?

I deactivated that plugin but the problem still occurred. This is getting frustrating!

I also deactivated W3 total cache as that seemed like the next likely culprit. Any other ideas what this could be? I’m also in touch with my host and they are saying it’s most likely a WP plugin but can’t tell me which one.

FD Feedburner Plugin redirects your feed, and I believe it does that via .htaccess.

Any luck with that deactivated too?
