• Hi,

For ages (years!) I’ve put a htaccess file in the wp-admin folder. This required site developers to complete an additional login screen, thus increasing security.

However, this file in the wp-admin folder has started to make the username and password box appear in front of the whole site.

If you click ‘cancel’ it does let users view the site. However, it is very off-putting and makes it look like the site is inaccessible.

Does anyone know why this may have started happening or has experienced anything similar? (I didn’t actually notice it until I cleared out my history/cache and then viewed my sites again).

It happens on all my sites, which are installed across two completely separate servers.

    Emily

  • Have you spoken to your hosts about this. It sounds like a server issue rather than a WordPress one.

I’ve not spoken to them, but they are totally separate.

One is where I work (a UK university) and another is a commercial host (Just Host).
