htaccess file and internal error.

I know there are posts about this on the forum but I can’t seem it understand any since I am new to this. So this happened to me yesterday where my site, out of no where just decided to have the internal error issue. Can someone please help my site go back to normal? I tried to recreate the htaccess file by going into notepad making a new htaccess.txt and then renaming it to .htaccess in the ftp but that didnt seem to do anything. I have deleted my old htaccess as well from the ftp so all I have in there in this blank .htaccess with no information in it. Any input would help a bunch. Thanks
