• There is some error in the site’s htaccess file that recurrently causes the site to go down. If I rename/remove the htaccess, the site is immediately restored. But then it’ll reappear hours or days later, and crash the site until I see it and remove it via FTP.

How can I make this cycle stop? We are not using htaccess to run any special functions, aside from pretty permalinks, which are retained when the file is removed/renamed.

Is it possible this is a hacking issue? The site is on a VPS so hosting co. is no help, unfortunately.
