htaccess and permalinks

    Hi Guys

    I am having difficulty activating my ‘pretty urls’. I’m on a Linux server which has mod-rewrite on it but when I try to change the permalink structure to anything except the default – my site does not seem to show any of the styling.

    The homepage appears as normal but when clicking on any other page all the content is shifted to the left and the background is white.

    I’m not too familiar with servers and htaccess and permalinks, so if anyone can offer any advice I would be grateful.

    I have read the documenation in the codex section but still no luck ??

    The site it taking an age to display – which suggest either a server problem, theme issues or plugin problems. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    Thanks esmi for your reply.

    I did as you suggested and first deactivated all the plugins, that still didn’t work so I activated the default theme and that worked!

    So, at least now I know it’s a theme issue, how do I go about resolving it? Any pointers?

    You could start with any custom functions and/or jQuery that the theme uses but beyond that, I’m not sure what to suggest. If you have access to server error.logs, you might pick up some pointers there.
