.htaccess and mod_rewrite

I’m having major issues. I put my .htaccess file into my /wp folder and now my pages that I created in WP don’t show up. Is there a way to fix this. I used to have the .htaccess file in my root folder, but then it started to screw up my site. I’ve been trying to fix this for hours and I really don’t know what the problem is. I’m so desperate. ?? Also, it looks like when you click the actual entry, it also doesn’t work.
