htaccess after install multisite

Hello,
I’m a bit confused on this:

On editing permalink, WP created the htaccess file and some rules;

On installing Multisite, WP created some new rules and instructed to replace the old rules with the new rules.

I’m wondering, what happened on the permalink rules after installing multisite? They are working without rules? ??
