htaccess / 301 / multisite clarifications

  • The setting for using WP’s internal 301 redirect seems to work fine, without having to modify my htaccess.

    Two things that I was hoping you could confirm my understanding of:

    1) Manually adding “force https” rules to .htaccess is still a good idea because it should be better performance-wise than having WP handle it.

    2) Even after manually adding .htaccess rules for https, I should keep the 301 setting in place for SEO reasons.

    Hi @madtownlems,

    You’re right, a .htaccess redirect is faster. You can enable the .htaccess redirect in settings/ssl. This is a 301 redirect.

    You can leave the wp redirect and .htaccess redirect enabled, but you could disable the wp redirect as well. If the request is redirected by the .htaccess, the wp redirect does not do anything. You can consider it a backup redirect.
