Hreflang shows en when hidden

When selecting to “Hide URL language information for default language.” The /en is removed from the URL but hreflang tags I get are:
<link hreflang=”en” href=”https://www.example.com/en/” rel=”alternate” />
<link hreflang=”es” href=”https://www.example.com/es/” rel=”alternate” />
<link hreflang=”x-default” href=”https://www.example.com/” rel=”alternate” />SEO wise I am told the top “EN” one should not have the /en in the link since it 302 redirects to the non en URL.
Anyway around this via the settings or otherwise?
