How/Where to upload plugins? Where is upload button?

    Hi
    We have our blog at wordpress…but hosted
    on our own domain..at dreamhost..
    We want to upload plugins to go to the plugin management…but we don’t see the uploading button…
    Do we use the upload button for the posting area?
    But how do we get it over to wp-content/plugins???
    I am so confused..
    Please give me simple to understand directions..for dummies
