While new to Twentytwentythree and the website editor, I messed up the templates startpage and page.

How can I switch both without having to start from scratch?

What irritates me too is, that when I open the template option of a page, I don’t see all the templates, but just standard and empty.

    What is going on here?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @spade

I’m not 100% sure I understand what you did. Do you mean that you edited the “Home” template but you actually meant to create a Page and edit that, rather than a template? If you can explain what you did in more detail – while ideally providing working links to your site where I can see the issues directly – that would be great!

What irritates me too is, that when I open the template option of a page, I don’t see all the templates, but just standard and empty.

Would you be able to provide a screenshot of what you’re looking at so I can have a better understanding of what you’re seeing? To share a screenshot, you can use a tool like https://snipboard.io/ and paste the generated link here, or use your preferred screenshot tool and upload the image to your Media Library. Then, insert an Image block here by clicking the + block inserter and selecting Image. Then, click “Insert from URL” and paste your Media Library URL into the block. Your site needs to be publicly accessible to use this second method.

Thank you Kathryn for your reply!

I should have written: I mixed up startpage and page and designed the page template as if it were the template for the startpage. Since it took me a lot of time, I don’t want to start over from scratch.

Regarding the template option of a page, here is a screenshot of what I meant.

I was expecting to see more of these templates …

Right now, I am dealing with another issue. The website-editor doesn’t load. I had disabled most plugins to get it back to work, but now it stopped loading again. I disabled plugins in the oposit order, thinking the last added plugin caused the problem, but even after disableing several plugins, its still not working again. This is how it looks …

Hey there @spade – your site and screenshots aren’t loading properly for me, looks like your SSL certificate isn’t set up correctly. You could try using the https://snipboard.io/ method instead, until you can get the SSL issue fixed.

    Sorry, it should work now.

I don’t want to pay for an ssl certificate for this test site. My main domain got one?…

Thanks for fixing the screenshots, I can see them now!

Ah, I understand your question better now. Some of the templates in WordPress are applied automatically to different views, so it’s not possible to manually select them on a specific individual page.

For example, in Twenty Twenty-Three, the Archives template is automatically applied to all automatically generated template pages, such as:

    • Category archive pages
    • Date archive pages
    • Tag archive pages

Another example would be the Single template, which is automatically applied to individual blog posts.

If you explain more about specically what you’d like to do in a little more detail, I’d be happy to try to guide you further.

I should have written: I mixed up startpage and page and designed the page template as if it were the template for the startpage. Since it took me a lot of time, I don’t want to start over from scratch.

You could try copy-pasting the code in code view from one template to the other. It’s not normally recommended because it’s easy for glitches to slip in this way, but it’s something you could try. You can find the code view here:

In the future, it’s really best to start a new thread to troubleshoot a new issue unrelated to the original. But for now I’ll try to help you here. I’d suggest using the Health Check plugin‘s troubleshooting mode to narrow down the issue, which won’t affect your live site. Switch to another theme like Twenty Twenty-Two and disable all plugins. Does the problem goes away or does it remain?

    • What version of WordPress are you using?
    • If you also have the standalone Gutenberg plugin active, what version is it?

Thank you for your helpful advice.

I installed the Helth Check Plugin and found out that all plugins only support until php 8.0. I had used 8.1. Changing that made no difference.

Then I switched to TwentyTwentyTwo and surprise: It worked again.

Now I have to start over with that theme …

Thank you anyway. At least I can get on with my work now.
