I am testing Gutenberg (when starting with a page builder, why not try the future- built-in one?) and my experience is … fairly okay. I have seen worse plug-ins with better ratings.

How do I select multiple blocks? the usual Shift-click, Ctrl-Click do not work, just selecting text across multiple blocks does not do the trick either. I can’t find anything in the keyboard short-cut list and there seems to be little to no end-user documentation.

The changelog for V3.9 mentions multiple blocks as one re-usable block is now implemented, but can’t figure out, how to do this.

I want to group a hr, a heading, an image and some paragraphs of text in multiple columns together to move them as one within the page and maybe save this as a reusable block. (think of it as a short description of a DJ or event venue and adding this block to every event-page).

    I am using Firefox 62 (64bit, Windows)

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • I do this successfully. I believe Shift/Clicking works best if you click in the right side of the block area. You can indeed select multiple blocks, copy/paste them, move them all together up or down. You can also use Columns. You have to manually tpe in the number 1 to create a block with a single column, then add any block you need inside that column. Afterward you can move them as a single unit but I find it hard to select the column because it’s not easy to see (with the themes I use). But it does work. I just think it’s about as easy to have separate. All this may not be what is described in the v3.9 changelog but that’s what I find works.

Thank You. Click on first block, Shift-Click on Last block works – but one needs to be careful. I succeeded in adding a reusable block that contains multiple blocks.

But it feels delicate, flimsy – I can’t really put my finger on it why or how it could be better … maybe just marking the text all with the mouse and clicking “create reusable Block” would be easier, more robust.

I am a avid user of the keyboard (while typing my pages or posts I have both hands on the keyboard, grabbing the mouse takes time and breaks the flow) – so maybe [Ctrl]-[Shift]-[Down-Arrows] could select this block, pressing again would select next block … and the next block. [Ctrl]-[Shift]-[Up-Arrows] could select the previous blocks … I’ll go and see where to file feature requests.
