• Hi folks,

I’m about to stop tinkering with the site and concentrate on content for a bit, but I’d appreciate some feedback on my latest attempt to put up a decent header / banner for the blog. I know nothing about graphics and photoshop so it’s taken me a while to get this sorted, but I’m not sure if the ‘look’ is right.

I guess the concept is that in an ordered and structured world, there is always room for some wildness and a little uncertainty. In other words, not every line is straight, and 2 + 2 doesn’t always equal 4. So – in this respect my site structure and layout is pretty formal and ordered, but the content is (or will be) a bit wild and the graphics are more loose. At least that’s what I’m aiming for… did I get there?

If you have a spare mo could you please browse to https://www.avalon5.com/blog and let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

ps. I’m currently looking at using the “image headlines” plugin to spice up the titles, but then that’s it. I think any more would be ‘too much’.

  • It’s an interesting “look”. As you say, a little “wild and loose”. I’d go with it….

    Thanks vkaryl ??

I’ve just completed the last touches (I hope) with some additional plugins. I’m trying out the image headlines thingy and the related posts.

Is the banner intentionally meant to look like a low quality jpeg? For some nostalgic effect? I think with the site as it is, having just viewed it, unless you can apply that effect to other parts of the site you tend to have two looks going – the blog and the header. Perhaps try a higher quality image, or create the banner fresh in your favourite tool of palettes and brushes

Well – the banner is a JPG all right, but I’m buggered if I know how to make it better quality. I “saved it for web” from photoshop with maximum quality and this is what I ended up with.

‘suppose I could go back in the depths of photoshop and horse around a bit more to see if anything decent falls out. It’s really a combination of luck, trial and error and lots of cursing at this point ??

Well that is astonishing if that’s the final result! Oh and if you’re expecting Crouching Tiger from Flying Daggers you’ll probably be disappointed, I won’t spoil it for you and I am known for berating something a bit too much, but I was severaly disappointed and laughed through some of it.

Thanks Icebug. I took a quick look at your site… I like the layout and general simplicity of the site, but I have to admit I’m not a huge fan of the javascript dropdown menus.

I’ll keep an eye out for when you announce your new sites ‘launch’ here on the forums.

Thanks for taking the time to look at “Howl @ The Moon”.
