• Assuming I have a multisite installation and a number of sub-domain blogs.

The main domain is the main site and all the sub-domains are related to the main domain.

If I turn off the multi-site freature :
1 – will the subs still exist? – as they are all ranked for in the search results for their appropriate key words
2 – assuming I left the wildcard domain on, would those sites then simply resolve to the main domain?

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Christopher

  • If you turn off the multisite feature by removing the lines in wp-config, then WordPress will refuse to look them up in the database.

This won’t have anything to do with whether or not they are still in there or even if the wildcard subdomain is set on the server or not.

If WP thinks there’s no multisite, then as far as it is concerned, they no longer exist.

Even if you won’t be creating any extra sites, and you want to keep what you made, why turn it off?

I have a number of sites – mostly marketing – and I am tinkering with website optimization and tracking – one popular method is multiple subdomain sites with the primary domain wildcats pointing to the main domain or “money” site – I was wondering if this would be possible with WPMS – would make the process significantly easier – if WP will no longer recognize or populate tue blogs if they don’t resolve then it would not work
