• Hi,
What is the best way to work on and test your website “offline” other than cloning your site and putting it on a subdomain? I bought a paid
plugin called WP-Simulator, but there must be some other solutions.
When I am spending time experimenting with new themes and plugins it’s nice to not be working directly on the live website in case there are any conflicts.
    Thanks,
    –Jeff

  • Can you elaborate on what exactly you want to test?

I want to leave the main website alone and make changes to a “cloned” version. When I complete the changes I want to replace the main site with the cloned site.

When ask what I want to test, I was referring to any conflicts with plugins. And just making sure that when changing themes all the existing content translate smoothly into the new theme.

That’s not going to be easy. You will need to literally clone the site somewhere else – either locally or in a sub-folder on your remote server. if you are just testing plugins or themes. you can then just upload the new theme or plugin to your production site. but if you’re working on site content, you’ll need to look at Moving_WordPress.
