• I’m having an issue with an external service not being able to connect to my website. We’re seeing an error 403 from the service. I have other external services that are connecting successfully, so apparently the problem is specific to this service. They want to crawl the site to check for broken links.

I have whitelisted two IPs from this service. It isn’t helping so I want to verify exactly how to go about whitelisting a URL in the Firewall options. I’m entering //xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx as the URL with no entry in the Param Name field since I have no idea what that value should be. Param defaults to Post Body. Is this the correct way to whitelist the entire IP, or must I put something in the Param and Param Name fields?

    Thanks,

    John

  • Did you try adding the IP address to the whitelist on the options page?

    Thanks!

    Hi, Tim,

No. I would expect that if the issue is with the Firewall that the IPs would be whitelisted on the Firewall page. If I’m understanding the whitelist on the Options page that bypasses all the rules applied by the Options page and is separate from the Firewall page rules. Is that not the case?

Just FYI, I don’t really think Wordfence is the problem in this instance because I have the same problem when Wordfence is deactivated. I’m just trying to humor the support folks for the external service who don’t seem to get that and are insisting that Wordfence is blocking their access.

I’m also interested in knowing how to properly whitelist a URL in the Firewall page for future reference since there’s no documentation on that feature that I can find.

    Thanks,

    John

    Hi @wfsupport,

I have the same problem and would like to have an answer to “how to properly whitelist a URL in the Firewall page”.

    Thanks,
    /Nils

Sorry, I have now found the option in the settings page.
