How to view/check SQL backup?

  • I understand that an important part of the backup process is looking to see if the SQL backup is complete and fine.

    What’s the best way to open and view an SQL file?

    I am running a MAC (10.5.x). I have opened the file using text edit, but am seeing weird characters in a small portion of the file, which otherwise “looks” fine. My network admin opened the file and did not see the weird characters.

    Perhaps I should also ask — how do I know the SQL backup is complete and fine? Are there any signs and symptoms you could suggest I watch out for?

    As someone who is not very experienced with SQL, but has nevertheless been updating WP and backing up for years.
