how to use this template twenty seventeen?

for my website have I by casualty choosen for this theme twenty seventeen. I have no idee why to choose for this ore an other template.
Now I see that this template give my on my left site post messages and on the right side new pages. Is it possible to change that? How can I learn to work with this template?
