I want to clone my current database and move to a new database for testing the new theme for my website. Can I use this plugin to do it? If yes, please provide me the instruction to do it and what I should be caution of.

Basically I just want to setup my current site into a subfolder/domain to test my new theme. When everything finalized, I just point my domain to that folder, it avoids any potential downtime.

Usually I use Pleask to clone the database, but somehow they failed so I wonder if this plugin can do the job. It never disappoint me restoring the database.

I saw the plugin has repair database function, does it do the same as Using WP_ALLOW_REPAIR? https://www.maketecheasier.com/fix-corrupted-wordpress-database-2/

What if my database may be corrupted, what should I do? should I clone the database to the new one to fix there? or what?

I remembered last time restoring fail in a mirgration is due to the wordpress database name and password is different than before, it will work when I correct them, it restore fine. Do you know how to make it work with different database name and the password as I duplicate the database to a new one for testing.

    Thanks

This plugin doesn’t allow you to clone your database. I don’t think this plugin is suitable for your use case.

    Hello Davikk,

Here is a link to a script that I have been using for the past 4 years.

    https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/

    They have a version 3.1.0

The version I use is version 2.1.0 which is just ONE php file and VERY easy to use.

I do not see the “2.1.0” version on their site, but you can reach out to them to see where you can get it.

With their script I can usually have a database cloned within 5 to 15 seconds !!

When using the script make certain to TEMPORARILY DE-activate “WordFence” or “Hide My WP” before making the DB changes.

And then after making your changes DELETE the PHP script file from the server.

    Hope this helps.
