• Could you provide me instructions (for dummies) as to how to use this plug-in? I’m BRAND new to WordPress. I have the plug-in installed. But, I’m trying to figure out how to get it to show up in my blog. I need step-by-step instructions as to how to create the link.

I have been using TypePad (which is pretty much point and click). WordPress is kind of freaking me out right now. Is there a book I can buy to teach me the basics?

    Thanks!

  • You need to create a page, perhaps called Subscribe (only a suggestion).

Then put the tag into the content of your page. The tag is <!–subscribe2–> and can be added using the button that appears in the writing menu.

The plugin will do the rest and manage your subscribers.

OK. I created the page and I can view it by looking at that URL. Now I need to figure out how to get a link from my blog’s main page to that page. I created a link using the Link Manager. But, how do I add that to my blog’s main page?

It will depend on the theme you are using but Pages should be linked on your blog home page.

You may need to change the code used in the theme but it shouldn’t be far away and you shouldn’t need to add the page to your link manager.

If you are still struggling post your site address.

Thanks. I figure out the theme I was using didn’t have the pages “element” (my word” or the blogroll “element” turned on. I’m going to switch to a theme that already has those until I can learn WordPress.

OK. I’ve got Subscribe2 installed and have a page for it! (Yippee) I subscribed myself and see myself in the subscriber list in WordPress. The problem is I made two posts yesterday and did not receive notification. I did get confirmation emails when I signed up. So, I know the mailing feature is working. Any ideas why I did not get notification of the new posts?

I’m using Subscribe 2 2.20 on Yahoo hosting. My blog is at https://blog.treasuredlocks.com

    Think I got it!

I downloaded the newest version of Subscribe2 and reset everything. Seems to be working fine now. Thanks for the help!

I am having the same problem with Subscribe 2. How do you download newer version?

Clarification: I have installed the S2 link on my post, but when people use it to subscribe to the blog, they get a notice that they are subscribed but they are not listed as subscribers. They also don’t get a choice of catergories.

Only if they Register (side bar link) are they listed as Subscribers.

So S2 link is not following through.

Late in the day but is getting a plugin the only way to register subscribers?

Depends on what “register subscribers” means. I’d be inclined to answer “no, it isn’t” though.

By “register subscribers” I’m referring to the process by which someone finds my site and wishes to become a subscriber. I was confused by the two options allowed under Options>General – Membership: Anyone can register, and Users must be registered and logged in to comment. I had checked the latter and unchecked the former. Now I’ve ticked them both the word Register appears under the Meta section of my classic theme site. And BINGO I can register (I tried on another machine). So I guess the plugins are to control the process? How is it anticpated that the configuration I had set up would work? How would I generate a password etc?

OK, ok, sorry. :// It’s clear now.
