• I’ve installed this plugin as recommended to me by my host WP Engine and after installing and checking the boxes to optimize HTML, CSS and Javascript and such in the settings, I noticed that my pages were loading more slowly and even several of the slideshow presentations I have on some pages wouldn’t load at all. I’ve since deactivated the plugin and everything works as it should. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, in testing again, when I check the box next to
Optimize JavaScript Code?, my slide animations don’t load.

This is one of the pages containing a slide animation.

Generally speaking Autoptimize needs some configuration, there’s a lot of information in the FAQ about how to proceed (esp. the part about “Configuring & Troubleshooting Autoptimize“). This is especially important for your slideshow-problem.

Regarding the slowness; you probably have “cache breaking” code (JS or CSS) inline in the HTML, which results in Autoptimize having to re-aggregate and re-minimize CSS or JS on every pageload. The part titled “My cache is getting huge, doesn’t Autoptimize purge the cache?” in the FAQ (and the linked blogpost) should help you solve that.

    Hope this helps,
