• I am in Armenia and working on helping a school for handicapped children create a WordPress website that can be updated by different people but the people who are doing the updating do not share a common language.

My question is: Do you know how a localized WordPress installation for Russian can be run along side the normal 1.5 version of WordPress? There are 4 people who would update the website, 2 speak English and 2 speak Russian.

Any creative ideas you have for having the ADMIN side of the website in two different languages would be highly appreciated.

Finally, I posted this question here because in rural Armenia I do not have the bandwidth to download the localizations and try to solve this problem. Bandwidth is both expensive and hard to come by. Thanks for your help in advance.

  • Just FYI, posting to this page took more bandwidth than it would take to download a localization.

As far as making it in two languages, it would require a considerable amount of hacking. You could do hacking into the admin that checks what current user it is and adjust the language accordingly, although no guarantee this will work as I am not that familiar with gettext.

    Hi,

    take a look at https://blog.web-dev.de

I’ve had the sam problem, because I have an girlfriend in Russia and we want to to start a blog.

So we have installed a option to choose which language u want to have in admin backend.

if this is what you want, i can send u the code via email.

I’d be very interested in the code
Could you pass it along as what you’ve done on your site is exactly what I am looking for

    Thanks

I’ve found one erroer, but i’m fixing it in the moment, so i will post the code in a few days!

sounds nice. maybe you can get ir working with:
    fredfred.net/skriker/index.php/polyglotfredfred.net/skriker/index.php/polyglot

this is supossed to change WPLANG, which will enable you to have diff langs on admin panel, and also in gettexted themes

    Hello,

I would be very interested in this code. I want my site admin in both English and Chinese.

The people updating the site are Chinese, but will generally be writing for a mixed audience.

I have overall admin control, so I prefer admin language as English.

Also, when people want to register for the site, the registration page should be in English, not Chinese. If I set the admin .po .mo file to Chinese, the login, register page is also in Chinese.

    Any help appreciated.
