I have setup a multisite wordpress, with domain-mapping on subfolders. For security usability reasons I want to use only one domain for the administration.

Example: I setup wordpress with the domain “admin.domain. com” and added two sites using subfolders: “admin.domain. com/site1” and “admin.domain. com/site2”. Site1 is mapped with the domain examplesite1. com and site2 with examplesite2. com. Now what I’m trying to achieve is to switch between the two sites without switching the domains. I want to stay in subfolder structure while administration but because of the domain mapping I get redirected to the domain.

Is there a way to use admin.domain. com to administrate all sites in the multiste network and to avoid the access from the domains examplesite1. com and examplesite2. com?

In the domain mapping settings check the “run admin pages in original domain” checkbox.

    Thank you that solved it.

    Hi Ron,

I am not sure, which settings you referring to, as I don’t have this listed.

I am not sure, if this is related to my problem, but I have one main domain and two subdomains. One of the subdomains doesn’t need a further login when I switch to it, but the other subdomain always needs another login.

My domain mappings look slightly different for both sites, but I am not sure how this happened:
    Subdomain 1
    https://wentworthwest.com.au
    https://rnoble.com.au/wentworthwest/

    Subdomain 2
    https://viventeliving.com.au
    https://viventeliving.com.au

Subdomain 1 is always accessible without further login and the address is also listed as https://rnoble.com.au/wentworthwest/wp-admin/ on the backend.

Subdomain 2 needs always a further login and the address is listed as
    https://viventeliving.com.au/wp-admin/ on the backend

Both domains resolving correctly when viewed on the web to wentworthwest.com.au and viventeliving.com.au

My hosting company says, the second login is normal, but they have no explanation why I don’t need to login for Subdomain 1.
I have also asked other users to check and behaves in the same way for other users.

I would prefer to now have to login again, but don’t know how I can achieve this for the second subdomain.
I tried adding another domain with https://rnoble.com.au/vivente to the mapping list, but it hasn’t helped.

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Kind regards

    Regine
