How to use cPanel export with WP-Admin import, or else extract posts offline
-
I have a WP install on a shared host. The site owner decided to go with SquareSpace, and the domain pointer has been reassigned. I need to get a category of posts (Testimonials) off the old install, but I can’t log into the WP dashboard because the domain no longer points there and the host doesn’t support accessing it as a subdomain. I can however access the cPanel.
GOAL: I need to extract the testimonial posts from the old WP database
I have no idea how to do that using myPHPadmin or SQLadmin or anything like that, so I thought I’d just recreate the old site as a subdomain since I have a personal site which I can create wordpress installs in subdomains.
I used cPanel on the old site to export the site database, and used myPHPadmin on the old site to export just the .sql file. I have them on my local hard drive.
What I can’t do is figure out how to connect the dots. I can’t figure out how to load the export of the old data into the subdomain on my site.
I have done a clean install of WP on a subdomain, and uploaded the sql data to my database, but I can’t figure out how to tell the new install to use the old data.
I don’t need the images or anything, just to extract the text of the testimonials.
Any ideas of what I can try? I don’t necessarily need to recreate the website, I just need the testimonials.
Thanks.
