Thanks Mike, but that doesn’t explain how to actually upgrade the plugin. Do I simply overwrite the existing installation with the new one? Do I uninstall the existing and then install the new one? Something else?

Maybe this seems obvious but I have hundreds of downloads and I don’t want to have to rebuild them all…

Well, you’d replace one with the other, but you’d have no data until you ran the legacy updater. And then there would still be issues with IDs etc which are explained in the description of legacy.

You are probably best exporting/duplicating your site and testing prior to updating if you rely on it. Remember this was a full rewrite, so full compatibility was never a consideration during development.

OK, WP is not going to let me ‘upgrade’ from version the ‘legacy’ version 3.3.6.1 to the new 1.4.3 — that is it shows that “Download Monitor” is already installed and won’t give me an ‘Install Now’ link. I guess I have to deactivate and delete the old one first. Question: when I deactivate the download monitor, will it delete its database?

And where exactly is the documentation for the new shortcodes? Is the documentation only available *after* I install the replacement version.

Do we need to remove the legacy plugin, and then install the new one? It seems they both want to use the same directory…
