I am currently using 2.2.3. I read that I should update if for any reason security. I have no idea how to. I do have a cpanel.

  • See the following video. Since you have 2.2, then I would suggest upgrading to the latest 2.5 first, then to the latest 2.6 and finally to 2.7. You may be able to go straight to 2.7, but incremental upgrade is normally recommended.

Keep a good backup of your database in the event something goes wrong.

WordPress isn’t installed on my cpanel after all. I guess it was installed manually (I bought a pre-made blog template a while ago). So how do I upgrade now?

It doesn’t matter how it was installed…if you have Cpanel, then you can upgrade using Cpanel. If you have a custom theme (if that’s what you are calling a template), then it may or may not work with the latest version.
