• OK-I’m retarded. I installed WP into my root (public_html) on an existing website.

So….do I just FTP it back over to my desktop and reinstall it as a separate folder into public_html?

Obviously, step-by-step would be preferable since I am apparently mentally disabled today.

    Thanks for any help. ??

  • well, most FTP proggies will let you create a folder, and then just drag over folders and files from your web root into a subfolder.

    I’d go with that option.

Remember to change the blog address in wordpress options (maybe even before you move the files).

If you’re planning to use wordpress to run your site though (which isn’t a bad idea at all) then maybe you shouldn’t move it, and instead start moving your design into a wordpress theme.

    Just a thought.

Awesome-so I don’t have to uninstall & reinstall? Just create a folder & drag it all there? great!

But, don’t know what you mean by changing the blog address. You mean: domain name/wordpress?

Site is already established & it’s an ecommerce site so don’t want to change-but thanks for the idea.

    Appreciate your help very much!

no, I mean in the actual wordpress admin panel options… your wordpress likes to know where it is, so the address to your wordpress installation is stored there.

if you’re going to move it to a subfolder, then wordpress will want you to specify that subfolder in the options.

before moving the files, just login to wordpress and poke around the options.

as for reinstalling – not necessary, as really wordpress only needs to know where to find itself (which you’ll tell it in the options), from there it can find your posts in the DB.
