The plugin treat mailto: links as intenal, adding data-wpel-link=”internal”

But I want mailto: links to open in a new tab, not replacing the current tab content with gmail or outlook or other web pages.

The only setting I find is in the “Exceptions” settings, where I can choose whether mailto: must be skipped or not – but none for set mailto: as external…

Can this be done with come code in functions.php?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

We don’t have an option to set mailto links as external in WP External Links free. In PRO you could create a Link Rule and force them to be set as external if you really want to, but in practice it would not actually do anything as the System/Browser controls what happens when you click mailto links. So each visitor will have a different experience when they click mailto links. For some gmail will open, for others Outlook, Thunderbird etc. whatever they have set as mail client.
