• Hello. I recently moved from wordpress.com (thevanillabeandream.wordpress.com) to www.remarpro.com (nonisplace.com). I changed the name of my blog and had a custom design made.

I used the export tool from wordpress.com to migrate all the content onto the new site. I was able to move all the posts and images successfully.

Now I want to delete my old blog but I am worried about all the images on the new blog deleting. I’ve noticed that whenever I click on a photo on the new blog the URL is directed from thevanillabeandream.wordpress.com and not nonisplace.com. I did a test run and deleted one of my old posts on the vanillabeandream and then checked on nonisplace to see if the images would still load, but they didn’t and it said “error”. So now I know if I delete my old site, all my images will give an error.

What is the best way to get all those images permanently on my new blog? Thanks so much

  • I was just taking a look and it seems like you have a few images hosting on wordpress.com and other hosted on your site.

    https://thevanillabeandream.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/img_5269.jpg?w=560

    and

    https://www.nonisplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Noreen_Sidebar_MeetNoreen.png

So if you delete the old blog then yes you will lose all those images.

At this point you will have to download all the images and move them over one step at a time. It’s not sexy but it will get the job done.

You can check if an image is on your server or not by right clicking on it and copy url.

    Does that help?

When you did the import did you choose to also download and import attachements? It sounds like you did not.

You could re-run the importer and check that you do use that function.

Hi Mark – I did choose to download and import attachments when I imported. Would it make any difference if i did it again?

It’s odd then that the images are not in your media library.
An import again would not do anything bad.

    What I would do:
    – install WP again at https://www.nonisplace.com/test
    – run the importer on that and see what happens.
    – if you get the same result (images wrongly linked) that shows one thing
    – if you get the right result (images imported and linked) we can then move things over.

Hi Mark – the images are in my media library. sorry if I didn’t make that clear. All the images are there in the media library and on the site.

My question is – when I delete my old wordpress.com site, the photos also delete on my new site. That’s the problem. I want to make sure that all the photos in my media library will be linked to nonisplace.com and not thevanillabeandream.wordpress.com

I did a test run – where I delete an old post on my old blog, and when i went to the post on my new blog, and clicked on the photo, it said bad/unknown link (because it’s still linking to the old blog)

I also just did a re-export/import. The photos are all in the media library as before – but still linking back to the vanillabeandream
