I have done a test order and have a quote on shipping. However, I cannot find what package was selected by the box packer to arrive at this rate. Am I suppose to guess?

    Hey chadwickhayward

WooCommerce Services will not be available for products that you haven’t already provided a box size for. This means that you have either set up custom packaging types, or you’ve set the shipping dimensions on the individual products.

If you click on the customer’s order from your wp-admin panel, you will see a line for shipping on the order.

It will either show a custom packaging name that you have set up in your account, like so:

You can find the custom packaging that you have set up by going to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping > Packages.

If the order shows a Individual packaging (), then it means you’ve specified the packaging on the product level:

To find the shipping info that you’ve set on the product level, go to the “Products” tab, then edit the product that was purchased. Under the “Shipping” tab, you will see the shipping information you’ve entered and these dimensions are what was used to calculate the shipping rates.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for your reply Phil!

I’m pretty sure I understand what you are saying.

Mine is showing up as “Individual packaging ().” The product purchased is a variable product, with weights and dimensions added for each of the 4 variations. The thing is however, that I do also have custom box sizes (again with weights and dimensions defined) set-up. My understanding was that the plugin would pack the purchased product into the smallest available box.

What I don’t get, is how the system would know what box to choose, if entering weights and dimensions in the product detail overrides the selection of custom boxes?

    Hello @chadwickhayward!

First off, make sure that your USPS shipping method is set to “pack multiple items in a single package”, otherwise WooCommerce Services will never attempt to box pack your products.

If you have this set already, seeing individually packed items usually means that the box packer wasn’t able to fit your product into any of the packages you have enabled/defined.

Can you share the product dimensions, box dimensions, and cart contents you’re testing?

    Thanks!

    Hey Jeff,

I am not shipping with USPS, but rather Canada Post. I am using custom box sizes. On further testing, it looks like any “simple product” is being put in a custom box and packed correctly. The problem is with Variable products. I have the weights and dimensions defined for each variation, but it looks like these are not being packed within any box (showing up as “Individual packaging ()”) despite there being boxes that would work. When both a simple product and a variable product are in the same test order, the simple product is packed and the variable is individual.

    Hello @chadwickhayward,

Hmm.. it seems like you might be encountering a bug. Which version of WooCommerce and WooCommerce Services are you using?

Also, can you share the dimensions of the simple product, the variation dimensions, and the custom box sizes?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeff,

I have figured this issue out. It was a user error. The measurements taken were out by ~0.2 cm enough to cause them not to “fit” in the boxes. Thanks for your help ??

No problem – glad your issue has been resolved! ??
