• I have uploaded a number of full-size images to the media library in WordPress for future use and posts. When I use the block editor and insert the image all I am getting is the thumbnail cropped. The quality is also low.

I have gone into settings and changed ”Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)’ to unchecked.’

It is still just showing as a square, versus the rectangle image that it actually is. Maybe I am missing something or is it not possible to insert images into posts with their original shape and size?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi there ??

The Size settings determine the size of the image you are adding to your site. By default WordPress creates a range of four image size for you to choose from:

Thumbnail: Displays a small thumbnail-sized version of your image on the page/post. Note, by default the Thumbnail size is a square, so some cropping of your original image may occur.
Medium: Displays a medium-sized version of your image on the page/post. This is a good size to use with Left/Right alignments, as it leaves sufficient space for legible text to either side.
Large: Displays a large-sized version of your image on the page/post. Note: WordPress will determine the width of the content column of your theme, and display the largest possible image for that space.
Full Size: Displays a full-sized version of your image on the page/post. Note: WordPress will determine the width of the content column of your theme, and display the largest possible image for that space. If your original image is larger than this column width, the full size of the image may not be displayed.

You can visit the Settings>Media section of your WordPress dashboard to customize the above image sizes.

    I hope this helps ??

    Thanks.

    The process I follow is:

    1. Go to the media library and select new then upload the file
    2. It imports, crunches – now it is in the media library
    3. I create a new post – Add an image Block – select the image from the media library – when it inserts it is a low quality ‘square’ – it has been cropped. (it was 1200×800)
    4. If I use the same image as a cover image it looks fine – it is only when it is in the actual post that it is cropped and degraded

I can adjust the settings in Classic Editor to work

Am I missing something in the Block Editor?

By default, WordPress compresses your images for better performance.

In case you want high-quality images on your website, then you can turn off image compression in WordPress. To do so, follow the steps in this article:
    https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-increase-or-decrease-wordpress-jpeg-image-compression/

There’s also a plugin option, this plugin allows you to select the quality of the thumbnail images generated by WordPress. Just go to Media Settings page and modify the Image Quality setting:

I hope you can solve it now, otherwise let me know ??

Thanks, I have completed the first one

I will check into the plugin. The odd thing is that it works great in classic – but Block is odd …
