How to stop anonymous comment posting with comments turned off.

  • I manage and support about 50 wordpress sites and almost all of them have a problem with comment spam EVEN THOUGH COMMENTS ARE OFF. Not only are comments off but all checkboxes regarding comments are unchecked or checked appropriately.

    How then are these comment spammers sneaking in? Anyone else having this problem? Anyone got suggestions to actually lock out comment spammers, plug-in or otherwise?

    Some of them could be “pingbacks” or “trackbacks”. Have you turned them off in admin
