How to stop a category from showing products within the subcategory?

A category I created has a couple of products as well as a few sub categories with products.How do I stop it from showing those sub categorized products without affecting the couple of products in the main category? I have the products listed in hierarchy under the sub-cat.

You can set the catalog visibility so that category display is only products, not subcategories:
