  • I’m pretty sure that would be copyright infringement ;).

I want to learn how do this. All I can find is info on using existing themes. I’ll change it so that it’s not a copyright infringement. All it is are boxes with rounded corners, san-serif font, gray and a search-able database. It’s just a way to start. Can anyone offer some actionable advice?

How do I get this WordPress folder on my desktop full of php files to do something?

As you may know, you can’t just copy php files. The only way to get the “files” on your desktop is if they gave the theme folder to you.

Just find a free or fee-based theme that resembles that site as close as possible. Work with that theme by editing files, etc. Start looking at theme tutorials as well.(There are tons) Follow all the copyright/usage rules for the theme you choose if you plan to use it live.

That site appears to be a custom theme.

No I do not know. WordPress has this big download button to give me all these php files but there is nothing I can do with them? I still don’t get it.

I’ve written Rafael a week ago but have not received a reply so I have no idea what the usage is. I contacted a name I found in the code and the guy is just a plugin developer and knows nothing about the site. So with all the deadends I’ve gone down recently I would just like to hire a developer (I’ve placed an ad) or know how and where to paste the code to get started changing it.

What keywords do I search to find a tutorial to do this specifically without wasting a lot of time sifting through tangent info. I don’t want to start with a theme that puts me farther away from my end goal. That just doesn’t seem to make sense if I’ve already found something close.

I’ve installed MAMP on my Mac. I’ve downloaded WordPress. I’ve installed an instance of WordPress on my web service providers server. They host my existing site….

I’ve been watching the Lynda.com video
WordPress Essentials which seems to already cover

    Installing WordPress

None of it had to do with starting from a custom theme. It just seems to be tangent info.

If anyone has a link to a video on this please let me know.
