I’m getting a Google Search Console error in the “Breadcrumbs” section that “Either “name” or “item.name” should be specified.”

How do I specify an item name?

This is the bit of code that it’s showing me has the issue:

    {“@type”:”ListItem”,”position”:2,”item”:{“@type”:”WebPage”,”@id”:””,”url”:””,”name”:””}},

    Thank you!

@pascal + @bethany: I just submitted my site health information via the form!

Re: Gravity Forms. I actually *just* got the ability to update. I’m currently running a validation in Google Search Console so that may be fixed.

Re: Item name issue. I’m still encountering this. In fact, the new web stories I created in the last few days are showing this error.

I’m not sure what to do as I believe this error should be fixed now since I updated YOAST.

    Thank you for your help!

I just ran your latest stories through the test tool at https://search.google.com/test/amp and they all pass. So I don’t think there’s anything else to do on your side. It might take some time for Search Console to pick this up due to caching, but it all appears good from what I can tell from the outside.

Good morning! I wanted to check in on this one more time as I’m actually still getting *new* errors regarding “specify item name”. All of my plugins are up-to-date aside for WooCommerce, which warns me to not update yet as it could cause issues.

Here is a copy + paste of the error:

    Cannot continue validation process
Affected pages were found. Fix the issue and run validation again

@jess2716 Thanks for following up! I ran your stories through the AMP testing tool and they’re all coming back without any errors:

Can you confirm that the issues that you’ve pasted here are from Search Console? There might be some caching involved in Search Console reports. I suggest requesting to reindex the affected stories and contacting the experts at Google Search Console Help if you continue to see these errors on your report after some time.

@bethany: Okay, I’ll try that. It’s just odd because now literally all of my web stories have the “item name” error so I don’t think it’s a caching error. So odd.

@jess2716 Just to be sure I’m not missing anything, do you mind submitting updated Site Health information privately via this form? Thanks!

    Sure. Sent! ??

Thanks, @jess2716! I don’t see anything obvious in your Site Health info, and I ran some more tests on the stories in your screenshot in both the Schema.org Markup Validator and Google’s own Rich Results Testing Tool and neither is showing the item.name error. These tools are generally more up-to-date and less “sensitive” than Search Console, so at this point I would say that you can rely on their results as opposed to what you’re seeing in Search Console.

That said, it would be ideal for a change to occur to make that item.name error go away in Search Console, and we are aware of another Yoast issue that may be causing this error. Since this needs to be addressed by Yoast, I’d recommend opening an issue on their support forum and referencing the GitHub issue I linked above to get more info.

I’ll keep this topic open for now as we watch the referenced Yoast GitHub issue for future updates. Let me know if you have any other questions for now!
